Dr. Viv Harris has been a practicing Veterinarian for over 25 years, owning her own practice for over 11 years and developing a deep interest in Holistic Veterinary medicine. She will present an introduction to Holistic Veterinary Medicine touching on the useful complementary therapies she uses with great success such as acupuncture, natural allergy treatments, nutritional therapy and Bach flower remedies. The talk will focus on combining conventional veterinary knowledge with complementary therapies, particularly when treating stress and anxiety issues in dogs.read more

"While much aggression is caused by underlying fear, anxiety or a dog feeling uncomfortable about people or other dogs, bullying of other dogs is a specific case where behavior modification approaches that aim to improve a dogs degree of comfort around other dogs are ineffective."

updated us all on current Dog Welfare laws. There were Trade stands full of the newest products , books and training material. It was a superb opportunity to network with like minded people from all around NZ sharing their pursuit to a better world for everyones dogs.

"Chill Out: Dealing with Overly Aroused Dogs"

This is a great opportunity to view and discuss some extreme cases of overly aroused and out of control pet dogs then compare our Kiwi solutions to the strategies that were suggested and followed through by the speaker.


What is the difference in behaviour modification and obedience training for dogs?
Do they go hand in hand? What comes first?
This seminar deals with adult dogs that lack self control.
He wont stop biting me Ive tried Time Out but it didnt work.
My children no longer like the dog since they cannot walk into a room without being attacked.
He is beginning to growl and we are becoming afraid.
What would you do?

Video cases and shown and discussed. How do you know what type of program to put these dogs on and what are the risks, if any?
Who is Pia Silvani?

Pia Silvanis love of teaching began 30 years ago as a private trainer, dance instructor, track, field and swimming coach for the Special Olympics and Regional Clinician for an international aerobics corporation. Currently Pia is the Director of Training and Behavior at St. Huberts Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New Jersey, USA.
The results of her efforts is an astounding 100+ dog training classes per week which includes 8 levels of pet dog training classes, speciality classes for dogs with extreme behavioural problems and much more.
Pia Silvani also developed a behaviour department and conducts private consultations specializing in aggressive and anxiety-related problems for dogs and cats.
She has spoken at various conferences and forums internationally (from Belgium to Japan), written several books and frequently appears on US television.
Pia also routinely consults with various shelters to assist them in improving and expanding their programs.
