Dr Viv Harris

Viv has been a practicing Veterinarian for over 25 years, owning her own practice in Wellington for over 11 years and developing a deep interest in Holistic Veterinary medicine; combining her professional conventional knowledge with complementary therapies. She completed national and international training, including IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society) certification in Australia, Natural allergy treatments in the USA and Australia as well as local courses in homeopathy, flower essences and herbal medicine. She was able to bring this knowledge to her practice with significant results. Viv was also the president of the NZ Holistic Veterinary Society for over 12 years.
Viv has written a handbook on Holistic Vet medicine The Healthy Animal Handbook; Holistic Health for Dogs and Cats (published both in NZ and the USA and will be available for sale on the night), writes regularly for Fetch dog magazine as well as regular appearances on national television (and previously on radio for 12 years) both as a veterinarian and as a sustainability advisor.

This talk by local holistic veterinarian Dr Viv Harris will cover an introduction to Holistic Veterinary Medicine touching on some of the useful complementary therapies she uses with great success such as acupuncture, natural allergy treatments, nutritional therapy and the Bach flower remedies. There will be a focus on combining conventional veterinary knowledge on treating stress and anxiety issues in dogs with complementary therapies such as the Bach Flower remedies, nutriceuticals, nutritional supplements and commonsense management advice.
