The Association of Pet Dog Trainers New Zealand (APDTNZ) Incorporated, is dedicated to enhancing the relationship between people and dogs through education in all aspects of pet dog training and behavior.

Our Mission: To promote human-dog relationships of understanding and trust by offering education in canine behaviour and effective, up to date, dog friendly training methods and skills.

Our Vision: All dogs are effectively trained through dog-friendly techniques and therefore are lifelong companions in a relationship based on mutual respect and trust.

Membership of APDT New Zealand is open to anyone with an interest in dog training and behaviour.
From pet dog owners to professional dog trainers, veterinarians, vet technicians, groomers, breeders, shelter workers, dog club volunteers, dog sport enthusiasts.
All who live and work with dogs are invited to join.

Full member- any adult person 18 years or over who provides dog training services and/or has an interest in the field of dog training and agrees to abide by standards and guidelines promulgated by the Association. This level of membership includes a listing in the trainers directory, reduced fees to official Association events, subscription to the newsletter, application for the use of the APDT logo on marketing literature, eligibility to stand for the Association Committee and voting privileges.

Associate member- any person who has an interest in the field of dog training. This level of membership includes reduced fees to official Association events and subscription to the newsletter.

Online Discussion board

A members-only internet discussion board offers participants the opportunity to ask advice, share thoughts and experiences with others within the world of dog owners. A supportive environment with an assortment of professional members, and many experienced and knowledgable dog owners. This is set up within the Yahoo network and membership is required to participate and read what others are saying about many everyday issues. A quarterly news letter

Our news letter is a great resource for members. It contains up-to-date information, with articles by trainers and specialists the world over, book reviews, regular columns, and news of upcoming events.

Annual Conference

Our Annual conference, held on Queens birthday each year features both international and local speakers who are at the forefront of expertise and technology.

Sharing resources via our library

This is presently being built up and a lending system is to be constructed. It is the wish of the APDTNZ to have a library of books, videos, CDs and DVDs available for hire by our members. Thank you for your patience, and any donations of material are most welcome.
